Buying a Website from smartGEEK

3 June 2010

We will do everything for you to ensure the transfer getting you the full rights to any website domain we currently own and you have purchased from us is as striaght forward and painless as possible. We use two registrars predominantly; 2Day.com & freeparking.co.nz, but will use others as the need arises when registering our domains.

If you already have an account with 2Day.com or freeparking.co.nz and the domain you have bought is currently registered with them then the process is very simple and can be done in hours. Although still a simple process with other registrars, we have worked with the support staff of both companies and know they’ll make sure that the transfer is a smooth one.

In summary it’ll work as follows:

  1. Funds are cleared
  2. We provide the UDAI
  3. Transfer the Domain Name
    1. For freeparking.co.nz domains we can transfer between accounts.
    2. For 2Day.co.nz domains we can arrange this with them direct.
    3. For other registrars, we’ll their ‘transfer’ process using the UDAI to move the domain to them.
  4. We’ll create a package containing the code, database and any other supporting files that go to make up the website.
  5. Your support staff ‘install’ the website.

We can and will help your IT support staff with step 5. However, we won’t do it for you. It would be difficult, if not impossible for us to be able to support all the various hosting and registrars company configurations out there. Which is why we host using our own serves and limit the registrars to only a couple.

We will happily continue to host the domain website after its transfer to you, which takes very little configuration at your new registrar account – simple as an DNS A Record to our gateway. This we can definitely help with. Remember that as part of the purchase price we will continue to host the website anyway, so there’s no rush to move it to new servers.

If you haven’t already got an account with a registrar or what to sign up with either of the above use these links.
